Women's Tennis Drops First Match Of Season

PROVO, Utah - The 19th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team, playing its third match in four days, dropped its first match of the season, 4-0, to 46th-ranked BYU, Monday afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Rebels go 2-1 on their road trip after beating New Mexico and Kansas State over the weekend.

The Cougars started hot and never let up. They claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles. Hanna-Katri Aalto and Alesya Ignatieva lost 8-4, to BYU's Jodi Richardson and Brooke Ferney, and then Audra Adams and Camilla Gould fell to Lu Oswald and Lindsay Ferrell 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

Seventh-ranked DeRoo suffered her first dual match loss, 6-2, 6-4, to Richardson at No. 1 singles. Freshman Hanna-Katri Aalto dropped a straight-set decision (7-5, 6-2) to the Cougar's Ferney and then Karem Harboe, also a freshman, lost to Oswald 6-1, 7-6, at No. 4 singles.

On Friday, the Lady Rebels downed New Mexico 7-0, and then they dominated Kansas State 7-0, on Saturday and are now 5-1 on the season.

The Lady Rebels return to action Feb. 10 as they host SEC foe Arkansas at 1:00 p.m.
