Mira Radu Falls In Consolation Semis At Riviera All-American

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Mira Radu of the Ole Miss women's tennis team lost a heartbreaking three-set match to Darija Klaic of Washington in the consolation semifinals at the Riviera All-American Championships Saturday at the Riviera Country Club.
Radu took the opening set 6-4. The second set went to a tiebreaker with Klaic winning 7-3. The two battled back and forth in the third set to another tiebreaker, before Klaic held on for a 7-5 win and the match.
In the first round of consolation, Radu came back to defeat Raquel Kops-Jones of California 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. She followed that up with a straight set 6-1, 7-5 victory over Tennessee's No. 1 player, Alison Ojeda, in the second round.
Radu (13-4), who lost in the opening round of the Main Draw to the nation's No. 1 player, advanced to the Main Draw after posting six consecutive wins in the pre-qualifying and the qualifying tournaments.
"Mira did a tremendous job of advancing through the pre-qualifying and the qualifying tournaments to get this far in one of the most prestigious collegiate events," Assistant coach Whitt Taber said. "She represented the program and the University of Mississippi extremely well. We are proud of her accomplishments and expect big things for her this year. With her results this week, Mira should make a huge jump in the rankings."
The Riviera All-American Championships is the first of three national collegiate tennis championships this 2001-02 season. The Main Draw featured 32 of the top players in the country.
