Volleyball Loses Hard-Fought Match To LSU 3-1

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Ole Miss volleyball team lost a hard-fought 3-1 match to LSU Friday, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, 17-30, 30-27, 32-34 and 18-30. With the loss, the Lady Rebels fall to 5-13 and 1-7 in the SEC, while LSU improves to 11-6 and 6-2 in the league.
Senior Jaime Burns recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 17 digs to lead the Lady Rebels. Freshman Elena Garcia notched her eighth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 17 digs.
LSU's Meagan Davis had 20 kills and 10 digs to lead the Lady Tigers. Jennifer Hampton finished with 14 kills and 20 digs in the win.
In game one, the two teams battled back and forth to a 7-7 tie to start the match. LSU would then outscore the Lady Rebels 23-10 the rest of the way for a 30-17 win.
Game two stayed close with LSU leading by only two throughout. The Lady Tigers held a 22-20 lead, before Ole Miss used an 8-1 run to take a 28-23 advantage. LSU scored the next four points to get within one (28-27), but the Lady Rebels scored the final two points for the 30-27 win.
Ole Miss and LSU battled to a 17-17 tie in game three, before the Lady Tigers went on a 7-1 run to take a 24-18 lead. The Lady Rebels then went on a 9-2 run of their own to take a 27-26 lead. Ole Miss had game point at 29-27, but LSU won consecutive points to tie it. The two would battle to extra points with LSU taking a 34-32 victory.
The Lady Rebels fell behind 9-2 early in game four and could never recover ,as LSU went on for a 30-18 win to close out the match 3-1.
Ole Miss wraps up a four-match conference road trip with a 1:30 match at Western Division leading Arkansas on Sunday.
