Volleyball Falls To Kentucky 3-1

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team won game one against Kentucky, but the Wildcats came back to take the next three games for a 3-1 win over the Lady Rebels in SEC action Friday night at the Gillom Sports Center.

Senior middle blocker Abby Hollander led the Lady Rebels (5-15, 1-9) with 15 kills on 26 attempts for a .385 hitting percentage. She also had eight digs. Karla Zschau, starting in place of senior Jaime Burns, who missed her first start due to the death of her grandmother, led the team with 19 digs.

Kentucky (11-9, 4-5) was led by Kristen Batt, who finished with 21 kills on 41 attempts for a .366 percentage. Sarah Spinner recorded a double-double of 14 kills and 13 digs.

Game one, plagued by a combined a 12 service errors, saw the two teams battle back and forth. Ole Miss led by four (16-12), but Kentucky would close to 16-15. The Lady Rebels, led by Abby Hollander's six kills, then had a 25-22 lead, before seeing the Wildcats win five of the next six points to take only their third lead (27-26) in the game. The two teams would trade points until the Wildcats had game point at 29-28. Ole Miss won three of the next four points to claim the 31-29 win. The Lady Rebels hit .333 in the game, while Kentucky hit .250.

Ole Miss maintained its strong play in the beginning of game two taking a 6-2 lead to start. Kentucky answered with five consecutive points and went ahead 7-6. Late in the game, the Wildcats built a 25-19 advantage. The Lady Rebels responded to get within 25-22. Kentucky then won the next three points to increase their lead to six (28-22) before going on to win the game 30-25.

The Lady Rebels fell behind (7-3) early in game three. Ole Miss rallied to tie it at 10-10, but then Kentucky would regain the lead and build their advantage to seven, (22-15) before Ole Miss called timeout. The Wildcats continued to take it to Ole Miss after the timeout and went on for a 30-20 win.

Ole Miss, looking to extend the match, got off to a 6-2 lead in game four. They led 13-10 at one point before seeing Kentucky tied the match. The Wildcats took the lead on the next point and built an eight point (22-14) lead as Ole Miss called timeout. Kentucky went for a 30-20 win.
