Volleyball Falls To Tennessee 3-1

The Ole Miss volleyball team lost a hard-fought 3-0 match to Tennessee Sunday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Center, falling to 5-16 overall and 1-10 in the SEC. Tennessee improved to 12-9 and 5-5 in conference play.
Senior Jaime Burns, who returned to the lineup after missing Friday's match, led the Lady Rebels with 11 kills and seven digs. Junior Erin Newsom finished with eight kills on 18 total attempts for a team-leading .333 hitting percentage.
Tennessee's Jenelle Hester recorded 14 kills and six digs and hit .320 to lead the Lady Vols. Ariana Wilson, Tennessee's leader in kills for the season, finished with 13 kills.
Ole Miss led game one 8-5, before Tennessee would rattle off five consecutive points to go ahead 10-8. The game was tied 14-14, and then the Lady Vols used a 7-1 run to take a 21-15 advantage before going on for the 30-22.
The Lady Rebels raced out to a 10-3 lead to open game two, before Tennessee called timeout. Following the timeout, the Lady Vols won seven of the next eight points to close to within one (11-10). Tennessee would take their first lead of the game at 13-12. They led 17-16 until Ole Miss won four of the next five points to regain the lead (20-18). With Ole Miss ahead 22-18, the Lady Vols went on a 6-0 run to take a 24-22 lead. They never relinquished the lead going on for a 30-27 win.
Tennessee started out game three with an 8-4 lead. They increased their lead to 17-11. Ole Miss got to within three (19-16), but couldn't get any closer as Tennessee built its lead back up to six (27-21) late in the game and went on to a 30-25 win.
Ole Miss continues its homestand with two games against SEC Western Division foes next weekend. On Friday, the Lady Rebels will host Auburn at 7 p.m. The match will be televised by FoxSportsSouth.
