Arkansas received two votes in this week's ESPN/USA Today poll.
SERIES INFO: Saturday's meeting will the 48th all-time between Ole Miss and Arkansas dating back to 1908. Ole Miss records show a 23-23-1 tie in the all-time series, while Arkansas' records indicate a 24-22-1 advantage for the Razorbacks. Arkansas claims a forfeit victory in a 1914 game that Ole Miss won 13-7. The Rebels have won three of the last four meetings, including 38-24 last year in Fayetteville to record their first-ever win in six trips to Fayetteville. Ole Miss is 4-0 all-time against the Razorbacks in Oxford. The Rebels won the last meeting in Oxford, 38-16 in 1999. The two teams met almost yearly from 1937-1969 before the series took a hiatus until 1981. The two schools have played yearly since then, and Ole Miss is 8-11-1 against Arkansas since the series resumed, however, the Rebels are 5-4 versus the Razorbacks since Arkansas joined the SEC in 1992.
OLE MISS HEAD COACH DAVID CUTCLIFFE: David Cutcliffe is in his third full season as head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels. He is 22-10 with the Rebels since taking over the program on Dec. 6, 1998, less than a month prior to leading Ole Miss to a 35-18 win in his head coaching debut against Texas Tech in the Sanford Independence Bowl. This is Cutcliffe's first head coaching position. Prior to coming to Ole Miss, he spent 17 seasons as an assistant on both Johnny Majors' and Phillip Fulmer's staffs at Tennessee. Cutcliffe is 2-0 against Arkansas and Razorback Head Coach Houston Nutt.
ARKANSAS HEAD COACH HOUSTON NUTT: Houston Nutt is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks. He is 27-16 with the Razorbacks and 63-38 in eight-plus seasons as a collegiate head coach. Prior to Arkansas, Nutt served four seasons as the head coach at Murray State from 1993-1996, posting a 31-16 record, and coached Boise State for one season in 1997, leading the Broncos to a 5-6 mark. Nutt is 1-2 against Ole Miss, and 0-2 versus Rebel Head Coach David Cutcliffe.
ARKANSAS SCOUTING REPORT: Arkansas has won three straight since starting the year 1-3. The Razorbacks have won their last three games against Weber State, South Carolina and Auburn by a combined score of 94-43, including a 42-17 win over the Tigers last Saturday. Offensively, Arkansas is averaging 20.6 points and 255.7 yards per game. Sophomore QB Zak Clark has completed 47.7 percent of his passes (53x111), throwing for 575 yards with three TDs and three interceptions. Sophomore FL Richard Smith and redshirt freshman SE George Wilson are the team's leading receivers. Smith has 30 catches for 300 yards and three TDs, and Wilson has caught 21 passes for 295 yards and a TD. Junior TB Fred Talley has rushed for 372 yards on 85 carries with two TDs. Defensively, Arkansas is allowing an average of 18.7 points and 359.4 yards per game. Senior MLB Jermaine Petty leads the team with 88 tackles, including seven TFLs. Junior DT Jermaine Brooks has recorded a team-high 3.5 QB sacks, and as a team, the Razorbacks have intercepted nine passes. On special teams, sophomore PK Brennan O'Donohoe has scored a team-leading 36 points, making 6-of-7 field goals, with a long 37, and 18-of-18 extra points. Junior P Richie Butler is averaging 42.6 yards per punt on 47 attempts, with a long of 61, and junior Marvin Jackson has returned 18 punts for an average of 11.8 yards with a TD.

REBEL GAME NOTES
REBEL NOTEBOOK:
* The Rebels' current five-game win streak is their longest since 1992, when they closed out a 9-3 campaign with five straight wins.
* The five-game win streak is the longest current win streak in the SEC, and Ole Miss' three-game SEC winning streak is also the longest active streak in the conference.
* The Rebels outscored LSU 14-0 in the fourth quarter of their 35-24 win last Saturday, and are outscoring the opposition 90-24 in the final 15 minutes this season.
* Ole Miss is 3-7 in their last 10 games during the month of November.
* Ole Miss is the SEC's least penalized team in terms of penalties per game and penalty yards per game. The Rebels are being flagged an average of 5.0 times per game for 43.9 yards.
SPENCE HONORED BY SEC: Sophomore LB L.P. Spence (Corinth, Miss.) was named the SEC's Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against LSU last weekend. Spence was credited with eight tackles (four solo), including two QB sacks, for minus 13 yards and one forced fumble in the Rebels' 35-24 win in Baton Rouge. It is the first time an Ole Miss defensive player has been honored by the conference office since Tim Strickland earned the weekly award for his performance against Mississippi State in 1997. Sophomore QB Eli Manning was named the SEC's Offensive Player of the Week this season after the Alabama game.
DEJA VU?: Since Ole Miss' run of 15 consecutive bowl games ended with a 10-2 record and a Peach Bowl victory in 1971, the 1990 season probably rates as the Rebels' most successful since. The 1990 team finished 9-3, one of only two nine-win seasons since 1971, and played in the Rebels' only New Year's bowl game since the 1970 Gator Bowl, as Ole Miss faced Michigan in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day 1991. Well, the 2001 campaign is starting to resemble the 1990 season when you consider the following:
* Ole Miss' 6-1 start is its best since 1990, when the Rebels were also 6-1 after seven games.
* A win Saturday against Arkansas would give Ole Miss its first 7-1 start since 1990.
* The Rebels are off to their best start in the SEC at 3-1, since also starting 3-1 in 1990.
* A win Saturday against Arkansas would give the Rebels' their first 4-1 start in the SEC since 1990, when they finished 5-2 and tied for second in the SEC (the SEC did not start divisional play until 1992).
* Ole Miss' three-game SEC win streak is the Rebels' longest since 1990.
* A win Saturday over Arkansas would give Ole Miss four consecutive SEC victories also for the first time since 1990.
* Ole Miss is looking its first its six-game winning streak overall since 1990.
Also of note, after opening the 1990 season with a non-conference win, the Rebels dropped their SEC opener to Auburn. Later in the season, Ole Miss defeated LSU at Death Valley in Baton Rouge. This year, Ole Miss opened the season with a non-conference victory before losing the next week to Auburn in its SEC opener. This year's team is also coming off a 35-24 road win over LSU.
REBELS BOWL ELIGIBLE AGAIN: Last Saturday's 35-24 win at LSU was Ole Miss' sixth of the season, making them bowl eligible for the fifth consecutive season since coming off NCAA sanctions prior to the 1997 season. The Rebels are currently the only team in the SEC Western Division to have advanced to the postseason in each of the past four seasons. Ole Miss has made trips to the 1997 Motor City Bowl, the 1998 and 1999 Independence Bowls, and the 2000 Music City Bowl. The current streak of four consecutive bowl appearances is the program's longest since setting a then national record with 15 straight postseason appearances from 1957-71.
OLE MISS SEC WEST'S WINNINGEST PROGRAM SINCE 1997: In addition to being the only SEC Western Division team to play in a bowl game in each of the past four seasons, Ole Miss has also posted the best overall record in the SEC West since coming off NCAA sanctions prior to the 1997 season. The Rebels are 36-19 (.648 winning percentage) since 1997. Ole Miss has also recorded the best overall record in the SEC West since Head Coach David Cutcliffe's first full season in 1999. The following charts shows the overall records of all six SEC Western Division schools since the start of the 1997 season, and since Cutcliffe's first full season in Oxford in 1999. Records include bowl games:

CUTCLIFFE AMONG TOP REBEL FIELD BOSSES: Head Coach David Cutcliffe's 22-10 record at Ole Miss ranks third among Rebel coaches after 32 games. Harry J. Mehre (1938-1945) posted the best 32-game record, going 25-7, followed by the legendary John Vaught (1947-70, 1973), who was 22-9-1. The Rebels' 27-24 victory over Alabama on Oct. 13 made Cutcliffe the third fastest coach in school history to reach the 20-win mark. Mehre tops that list, reaching 20 wins in 24 games, followed by Vaught who took 28 games to earn 20 victories. The following chart shows the top five coaches, in terms of winning percentage, in Rebel history after 32 games:
| Coach, Years | W-L-T | Pct. |
| Harry J. Mehre, 1938-1945 | 25-7-0 | .781 |

NOTING ELI:
* Sophomore QB Eli Manning (New Orleans, La. ) was listed as one of the top 100 college players in the country in ESPN.com's, The Blitz midseason rankings. He was 11th among quarterbacks on the list.
* Was listed by the Walter Camp Football Foundation as one of the 10 leading candidates for its prestigious "Player of the Year" award, the fourth oldest individual college football award in the country.
* Needs one TD pass to tie the Ole Miss single-season record of 18 set by Charlie Conerly in 1947 and Romaro Miller last season.
* Has thrown multi-TD passes in 5-of-7 games this season, and in 6-of-8 games since last December's Music City Bowl, including a school single-game record five against Murray State in the season opener on Sept. 1.
* Thrown a TD pass in eight consecutive games dating back to last December's Music City Bowl to tie the school record held by his father, Archie Manning (1968-70), and Romaro Miller (1997-2000).
* Was intercepted by LSU's Randall Gay in the second quarter last Saturday to snap his streak of consecutive passes without an interception at 168. It was the second longest streak in school history, 32 shy of the Stewart Patridge's (1994-1997) school record of 200 set in 1997.
* Set career highs for completions and passing attempts at LSU, completing 28-of-44 for 249 yards with three TDs and one interception.

* The 249 yards passing versus LSU snapped his school record streak of consecutive games with at least 250 yards passing at six.
MANNING LOOKS TO BECOME FASTEST TO 2,000: With 96 yards passing against Arkansas Saturday, sophomore QB Eli Manning can become the seventh player in school history to throw for at least 2,000 yards in a season, and in the process, become the fastest to reach the 2,000-yard mark for a season. Stewart Patridge, in 1997, and Romaro Miller, in 1998, currently hold that distinction as both needed nine games to reach 2,000 yards in a season. Earlier this year, Manning became the fastest to reach 1,000 yards for a season, doing so in four games.
ELI'S TD-TO-INT RATIO ONE OF NATION'S BEST: With 17 TD passes to just two interceptions this season, sophomore QB Eli Manning ranks second in the nation among quarterbacks with at least 100 passing attempts in TD-to-interception ratio. Only Brigham Young's Brandon Doman ranks better, with 22 TDs-to-two interceptions for a ratio of 11-to-1. Of the top three in the nation, Manning is averaging the most passing attempts per game at 34.7. The following chart shows the nation's top three passers in TD-to-INT ratio:
| Player, Team | GP | Att | TD-Int | Ratio |
| Brandon Doman, BYU | 8 | 239 | 22-2 | 11:1 |
| Eli Manning, Ole Miss | 7 | 243 | 17-2 | 8.5:1 |
| Cory Paus, UCLA | 7 | 138 | 8-1 | 8:1 |
MANNING RANKED AMONG NATION'S TOP PASSERS: Sophomore QB Eli Manning enters this weekend's game ranked in the top 25 in the nation for completion percentage (6th), completions per game (9th), passing yards per game (9th), passing efficiency (12th), TD passes (T12th), and total offense (13th).
MANNING SHINES IN THE FOURTH QUARTER: Throughout the season, sophomore QB Eli Manning has had a habit of making the big play in the fourth quarter. Manning's pass efficiency rating in the fourth quarter of 181.46 is 21.26 points higher than any other quarter. He has completed 32-of-51 passes during the final 15 minutes, for 485 yards with six TDs, despite not playing in the fourth quarter against Murray State and attempting only one pass against Middle Tennessee on Oct. 20. He has also engineered fourth-quarter comebacks against Alabama and LSU, going a combined 15-of-27 for 220 yards and three TDs in the fourth quarter. The following charts break down Manning's numbers by quarter, and charts his big-play performances in the final stanza during the 2001 campaign:

(RE)LOADED GUNN: In the past three games, senior RB Joe Gunn is averaging 101.7 yards per game from the line of scrimmage (rushing or receiving), compared to 63.5 yards in the year's first four games. His 280 yards rushing the last three games surpasses his total of 234 in the first four games, and Gunn has found the end zone four times in the past three games compared to just once in the season's first four games. The following chart shows Gunn's production in the season's first four games compared to the last three contests.

METCALF IN "BAD COMPANY": Senior OT Terrence Metcalf (Clarksdale, Miss.) was listed among some "bad" company in ESPN The Magazine's Oct. 29 issue, as the magazine featured the nation's five most fearsome blockers on the offensive line.
METCALF ON LOMBARDI AWARD AND OUTLAND TROPHY "WATCH LISTS": Senior OT Terrence Metcalf (Clarksdale, Miss.) has been named to both the Lombardi and Outland Trophy "watch lists." Metcalf is one 52 preliminary candidates for the 32nd annual Rotary Lombardi Award, presented to the nation's top lineman (offense or defense). The winner will be selected from a list of 12 semifinalists on Dec. 5 in Houston.
The Outland Trophy is awarded to the nation's top interior offensive or defensive lineman. Metcalf is one of 26 players to be named to the award's watch list. The 2001 Outland Trophy winner will be named Dec. 6 on the ESPN College Football Awards Show from Orlando, Fla.

Metcalf has played both guard and tackle during his career at Ole Miss, and has started at left tackle in all four of the Rebels' games this season. In its preview, The Sporting News said Metcalf could go as high as some of the top offensive tackles.
TAYLOR NAMED TO JIM THORPE AWARD "WATCH LIST": Senior DB Syniker Taylor was one of 38 players across the country named to the 2001 preseason "watch list" for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is presented to the nation's top defensive back. A screening committee will narrow the field to 10 semifinalists, which will be announced the first week in November. That list will be submitted to a national selection committee consisting of coaches, journalists and former players from around the nation. Three finalists will then be announced the Monday before Thanksgiving and be invited to ESPN's College Football Awards Show at Disney World in Orlando, Fla., where the winner will be announced Dec. 6.
Taylor unofficially tied a season high with six tackles at LSU last Saturday and had two pass break-ups (official defensive statistics will be available Tuesday). For the season, he has been credited with 28 tackles (17 solo), with one TFL, and leads the team in interceptions (3) and passes defensed (9).
