Volleyball Loses Hard-Fought Match To Arkansas 3-0

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team lost a hard-fought match, 3-0, to the University of Arkansas Friday night at the Gillom Sports Center. With the loss, the Lady Rebels fall to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the SEC, while Arkansas improves to 8-5 and 5-0 in league play.
The Lady Rebels hit only .104 to Arkansas' .282. Senior Jaime Burns led Ole Miss with 12 kills and eight digs. Erin Newsom had five kills on 12 attempts for a .333 hitting percentage. Junior Sarah Lansden led the team in digs with 10.
Arkansas' Eftila Tanellari recorded a double-double of 14 kills and 16 digs to lead the Lady Razorbacks on the night.
Game one stayed tight until Arkansas took their largest lead (26-18). The Lady Razorbacks led 29-21, but Ole Miss would attempt a rally, winning five consecutive points to get within 29-26, before Arkansas won the final point for a 30-26 margin. The Lady Rebels hit only .091 in the game with Burns leading the way with seven kills.
In game two, Arkansas hit .372 on their way to a 30-20 victory. The Razorbacks were led by Tanellari's six kills on 13 total attempts for a .385 hitting percentage. Ole Miss trailed 20-16, before seeing Arkansas go on a 10-4 run to close out the game.
Arkansas led game three 11-8 and used a 12-5 run to build their lead to 23-13. The Lady Rebels could not get any closer as the Lady Razorbacks closed it out 30-21.
The Lady Rebels will conclude a four-match homestand Sunday with a 2 p.m. match against LSU.
