OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team has signed Stacy McCommon, an outfielder from Amory, Miss., to a national letter of intent, as announced Monday by Rebel Head Coach Candi Letts.

McCommon helped Amory High School to the Mississippi 3A state championship last year as a junior. She batted .378 with 23 RBI, while posting a 12-1 record on the mound.

"Stacy is an exceptional athlete," Letts said. "She has great speed and excellent all-around skills. She was the leader of a proven Amory team that won the state championship.

"We're really excited about having her. There is definitely a bright future for Stacy here at Ole Miss."

McCommon is the Rebels' first signee of the early fall signing period.

Ole Miss will open its upcoming 2002 season Feb. 1 at the Lobo Diamond Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Rebels' home-opener will be part of the Ole Miss Invitational with Evansville, Nicholls State and Tennessee-Martin Feb. 15-17 in Oxford.
