ARKANSAS POSTGAME NOTES
Arkansas assistant coach Chris Vaughn did not travel with the team on Friday because he was at Washington Regional Hospital with his wife, Marquette, who gave birth to their first child, Christopher Matthew Vaughn Jr. (eight pounds, five ounces, 20 inches long) at 6:07 p.m. Friday. Vaughn flew in commercially Saturday for the game.
Arkansas entered the Ole Miss game 2-0 all-time in overtime games, ironically, both games in Mississippi against Mississippi State. UA beat MSU 16-13 in 1996 and 17-10 in 2000. UA is now 3-0 all-time in overtime games with all three played in the state of Mississippi.
Arkansas and Ole Miss played the most overtime periods in a single game in NCAA history.
Arkansas' win is its first in five trips to Oxford, Miss.
Entering the game, Arkansas had lost 11 of its last 12 SEC road games. The last win was 17-10 in overtime at Mississippi State last season.
Fred Talley, Cedric Cobbs and Matt Jones all rushed for 100 or more yards for Arkansas, the first time three players have done so in the same game since 1993 when Carlton Calvin, Oscar Malone and Marius Johnson cracked the century mark against LSU.
Sophomore safety Jimarr Gallon and freshman tight end Jason Peters made their first starts of the year.
Gallon's third-quarter sack of Eli Manning is the first of his career.
Gallon entered the game with six tackles for the season. Unofficially, he had seven stops against the Rebels.
Ole Miss' first quarter touchdown is the first first-quarter TD Arkansas has allowed in four games, since Sept. 29 at Georgia.
Zak Clark's second-quarter interception marked the first turnover for Arkansas in three games, since playing Weber State on Oct. 6.
Cedric Cobbs had 34 yards and a score on six carries in the first half. The 34 yards is a game season high this season, topping the 29 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries in the opener against UNLV.
Ole Miss' 56-yard completion from Eli Manning to Doug Zeigler in the third quarter is the longest pass play Arkansas has allowed this year.
Fred Talley rushed for more than 100 yards for the third time in four games. He had 135 yards on 17 carries against Weber State and 111 on 33 rushes against South Carolina. Last year, Talley had 214 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in last year's game against the Rebels.
Brennan O'Donohoe's 45-yard field goal in the third quarter is a career long. His previous long was 38 yards last year at Mississippi State. O'Donohoe's is now seven of eight on the season.
Through three quarters, George Wilson had seven receptions for 81 yards. The seven catches matches his career high set at Alabama earlier this year while the yardage total is a personal best.
Freshman fullback Mark Pierce's rushes and rushing yardage are both career highs. His two-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter is also his first career score.
