Volleyball To Battle Mississippi State Twice This Week

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team will conclude the season this week with a battle against arch-rival Mississippi State. The Lady Rebels will travel to Starkville Thursday for a 7 p.m. match, and then the two teams will square off in Oxford on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Ole Miss went 1-1 last weekend, defeating Auburn 3-2 and then losing a hard-fought 3-2 match to Alabama on Sunday. Senior Jaime Burns recorded consecutive double-doubles to bring her total to12 for the season. She leads the team with 277 kills for an average of 3.51 per game.
Mississippi State comes into Thursday's match with a 7-16 overall record, 2-11 in the SEC. They are led by junior outside hitter Misty Hubenthal, who is averaging 3.14 kills (225) and 2.28 digs per game. Sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Rousey is second on the team with 191 kills.
When the two teams meet Thursday night, Ole Miss will be looking for its 50th win in the series. The Lady Rebels lead the overall series with Mississippi State 49-11. The last two years, the matches have been won by the home team. Last year, Ole Miss won in Oxford 3-1 and Mississippi State won in Starkville 3-2.
