SCHEDULE POSTER WEEKEND: The first 300 fans in attendance today and tomorrow will receive a free 2001 Ole Miss baseball schedule poster.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS: UALR returns seven starters and four pitchers from last year's team that finished 33-23 overall, and 16-13 and fourth in the Sun Belt Conference. Senior 2B Derin McMains returns after hitting a team-best .355 and driving in a team-high 54 run last season. The Trojans also return their top home run hitter from last season, senior C Aaron Robbins who hit 15, and also batted .345 with 42 RBI. UALR head coach Brian Rhees is entering his fifth season at Little Rock, and is 76-141 with the Trojans. He has a career record of 174-280.
SERIES INFO: Today's doubleheader will mar the 12th and 13th meetings all-time between UALR and Ole Miss dating back to 1978. The Rebels lead the series 8-3, with all 11 contests having been played in Oxford. The Trojans have won three of the last five, including 5-4 last year on May 2.
OLE MISS VS. THE SUN BELT CONFERENCE: Ole Miss is 108-57 (.655 winning percentage) all-time versus teams that currently compete in the Sun Belt Conference. Last year, the Rebels went 6-2 against the Sun Belt, sweeping three games from Louisiana Tech, winning 2-of-3 at South Alabama, defeating Arkansas State (4-3) and losing to Arkansas-Little Rock (5-4). The following chart shows how Ole Miss has fared against individual Sun Belt schools:

THE MIKE BIANCO ERA BEGINS: The 2001 season will mark Ole Miss' first under head coach Mike Bianco. Bianco was hired as the 19th head coach in school history -- the sixth of the University's modern era (since 1947) -- on June 7, 2000, after serving three years as the head coach of McNeese State. A former player and assistant at LSU under Skip Bertman, Bianco compiled a 100-71 record with the Cowboys and led them to the 2000 Southland Conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA Regionals. For his efforts, Bianco was named the SLC's Coach of the Year.
REBEL COACHING DEBUTS: First-year head coach Mike Bianco is Ole Miss' fifth head coach since Tom Swayze became the Rebels' skipper in 1951. The Rebels are 4-0 in their first game under a new coach since Swayze won his debut, 4-2 over Illinois Wesleyan. The following chart shows the outcome of Ole Miss' first game under a new coach beginning with Swayze's 1951 coaching debut:
Year Head Coach Opponent Score1951 Tom Swayze Illinois Wesleyan W, 4-21972 Jake Gibbs Kansas State W, 8-71991 Don Kessinger Nicholls State W, 8-21997 Pat Harrison Eastern Kentucky W, 13-3
OPENERS: In recorded season-openers since 1893, the Rebels are 68-32 (.680 winning percentage). Ole Miss has won 19 straight season-openers dating back to an 8-6 season-opening loss to Livingston in 1981 ... In home-openers dating back to 1951, Ole Miss is 40-5 (.889 winning percentage) and have won its last 19 home-openers. The Rebels last loss in a home-opener was to Livingston in 1981 ... Today's opener is believed to be the earliest date the Rebels have ever opened the season.
TWO TRANSFERS TAKE TO THE HILL: Both of today's scheduled starting pitchers in game one are transfers from NCAA Division I schools. UALR starter Bobby Reed transfered after last season from New Mexico State, and Ole Miss starter Pete Montrenes is a transfer from Southern California.
REBEL DIAMOND NOTES: Today's twinbill marks the first time the Rebels have played twice in a day since May 29, 1999 in the NCAA Regionals, when they defeated Monmouth (NJ) 12-3 and then lost to Texas A&M 13-7 ... This is Ole Miss' first "true" doubleheader since April 19, 1998 when the Rebels swept a pair of seven-inning games from Vanderbilt in Oxford.
