REBEL/EASTON INVITATIONAL
Ole Miss (5-5) hosts its second straight home tournament this weekend with the Rebel/Easton Invitational. Joining Ole Miss will be Southwest Missouri State, Samford and Evansville. The Rebels enter on a four-game winning streak, equaling its longest from last year. Samford is 1-6 on the young season, while Southwest Missouri and Evansville will be playing their season-openers.
OLE MISS SOFTBALL CLASSIC
The Rebels won their own Ole Miss Softball Classic last weekend, going 4-0 against Tennessee-Martin and Nicholls State. The Rebels defeated the UTM Skyhawks, 2-1 and 11-3, and the Lady Colonels, 4-1 and 7-4. In the season-opening tournament for both schools, Nicholls finished second with a 2-2 mark, while Martin fell to 0-4.
REBEL OFFENSE ERUPTS
Ole Miss' second game with UT-Martin was ended after five innings on mercy rule, after the Rebels ran out to an eight-run lead, 11-3. The 11-run total is the third highest single-game tally in school history and the most since Apr. 16, 1997, the program's inaugural season. On that day, Ole Miss shellacked Mississippi Valley State, 12-0 and 22-1, in a home doubleheader.
PITCHING EXCELLENCE
The Ole Miss pitching staff showed its dominance in the Classic. All four Rebel pitchers hurled complete game wins, and no one allowed more than one earned run. Lindsay Price continued her strong play in Saturday's game with UTM, limiting the Skyhawks to four hits and one unearned run. Price, a sophomore from Terry, Miss., leads the staff this season with a 2.05 ERA and a 2-2 record.
DIMARCO HAS A DAY
After going hitless in Ole Miss' two games on Saturday, Kristi DiMarco exploded on Sunday, going 5-for-6 with 5 RBI, four runs-scored and three stolen bases in the doubleheader. After batting leadoff in the Rebels' first nine games, the junior transfer from Palmdale Calif., batted third in the lineup against Tennessee-Martin and responded with a 3-for-3 game with a double, triple and four runs driven in. DiMarco joined the Rebels this season after spending two years at Antelope Valley College, where she was a two-time all-conference selection.
