OXFORD, Miss.-- The Ole Miss softball team travels to Stillwater, Okla., this weekend for the OSU Cowgirl Classic. The Rebels (7-8) will be joined by Creighton, Tulsa and host Oklahoma State, as well as Evansville and Southwest Missouri State for the second straight tournament.
Ole Miss opens play Friday with Tulsa (3-6) at noon (CT), followed by host Oklahoma State (4-6) at 2 p.m. On Saturday, the Rebels face SMS (2-2) at 10 a.m. and Creighton (1-2) at 2 p.m.
The Classic marks a return to the road for Ole Miss after nine games in a pair of home tournaments. The Rebels posted a 6-3 record during that stint.
Ole Miss is fresh off a third place showing at the Rebel/Easton Invitational last weekend in Oxford. The Rebels went 2-3 with both wins coming off shutouts by senior lefthander Jennifer Hughes. The Missouri City, Texas native limited Southwest Missouri and Samford to five baserunners, all of which off singles, over 15 innings. Hughes is 3-2 on the year with a 2.19 ERA and a team-high 29 strikeouts.
Ole Miss is 1-4 all-time against Tulsa, and 1-3 against OSU. The Rebels boast a 3-2 all-time mark vs. SMS, including the 1-0 win over the Bears last weekend. Ole Miss defeated Creighton, 5-4, a year ago in the school?s only previous meeting.
