OXFORD, Miss.-- Ole Miss will travel to Ruston, La., to open a three-game weekend series with Louisiana Tech, Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. The three-game set will mark the Rebels' first road games of the 2001 season.
Saturday's game is scheduled for 1 p.m., and Sunday's contest is also slated for a 1 p.m., start.
The Rebels (7-2) have won six of their last seven, including 4-0 over Austin Peay Wednesday night in a rain-shortened, seven-inning game. Louisiana Tech (7-3) enters Friday's series-opener having lost three of its last four games. The Bulldogs dropped a 4-2 decision to Northwestern State on Wednesday.
Junior right-hander Pete Montrenes is scheduled to be Ole Miss' Friday night starter. In his first two starts of the season, Montrenes (2-0) hasn't allowed a run in 12 innings of work and has struck out 17 while walking only four. He earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors this past Monday after working six scoreless innings and striking out a career-high 10 in his start against SE Missouri State last Saturday.
As a team, Ole Miss has a 3.39 ERA and has pitched a shutout in three of its last five games.
Freshman infielder Matt Tolbert continues to lead the team in hitting with a .409 average, and is also the Rebels' RBI leader with 10. Senior third baseman Lance Jones is batting .400 with five doubles, and junior outfielder Burney Hutchinson is hitting .333 with two home runs and eight RBI.
Louisiana Tech is hitting .353 as a team, led by catcher Bryan Beck's .533-clip. Senior Tim Meadows is batting .400 and has recorded a team-best 17 RBI.
Junior right-hander Derek Brewster is slated to be the game one starter for the Bulldogs. He is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in 14 innings of action this season.
