OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss kicked off spring football practice here Friday afternoon as Coach David Cutcliffe sent his squad through a two and one-half hour session.
"There was a lot of good energy out there today," Cutcliffe said. "I saw some things we can build on, but it's evident that we have a lot to accomplish in a short period of time."
NCAA rules allow only 15 days of spring drills, including the annual Red- Blue game on March 31, with the first two practices limited to helmets only. Tuesday will be the first day in pads for the Rebels.
"I thought we struggled a little in the passing area," Cutcliffe said. "We didn't throw the ball well, but that is to be expected since this was our first day of practice."
Cutcliffe said that he expects the coaching staff to learn a lot from the opening day practice tape.
"We had a lot of first day mistakes, especially on defense when it came to alignments," Cutcliffe said. "There's a lot for them to be exposed to at the very beginning."
Weather permitting, plans call for the Rebels to return to the practice field Saturday morning.
