RUSTON, La. - Burney Hutchinson's 12th-inning sac-fly to score Clint Farrar lifted Ole Miss to an 8-7 win over Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon, in a game that ended in a heavy downpour. The Rebels (9-2) also won the series-opener 14-4 on Friday night and have now won eight of its last nine games.
The loss was the Bulldogs' (7-5) third straight.
Clint Farrar led-off the 12th with a single to right and moved to second on Lance Jones' sacrifice bunt. After a passed ball advanced Farrar to third, Hutchinson lifted a high fly ball to left that allowed Farrar to tag and easily beat Cullen Simmons' throw home.
Freshman right-handed Nick Bradshaw (1-0) earned his first collegiate win, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in four innings of relief.
Lee Gwaltney (2-1) was charged with the loss. He gave up three runs, only one earned, on four hits and two walks.
Josh Christian went 4-for-7 with two RBI to pace Ole Miss' 16-hit attack, and the two teams combined for 31 hits on the afternoon.
Lane LaBorde, Wade Robinson and Simmons recorded three hits a piece for Louisiana Tech.
Trailing 3-0, the Bulldogs scored four runs in the eighth, capped by Eric Gashel's RBI single to take a 4-3 lead into the ninth. Ole Miss regained the lead in the top of the ninth with back-to-back two-out RBI singles by Christian and Banks Robinson.
The Bulldogs tied it in the bottom of the ninth when Bo Grimes scored from third on a Farrar-error off the bat of Wade Robinson. Simmons was then intentionally walked to load the bases with one-out, bringing Tim Meadows to the plate with a chance to win the game. However, Bradshaw coaxed Meadows to bounce back to the mound and into an inning-ending double play.
The two teams each scored two runs in the 11th. Banks Robinson gave the Rebels a 6-5 lead on a one-out RBI single to score Christian, and he later scored on a LaBorde error off the bat of Matt Mossberg.
Craig Montgomery tied it at 7-7 in the bottom of the inning with a one-out, two-run home run to right field.
Ole Miss will look for the three-game sweep Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
