OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss will host UT-Martin Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting, in the first of four consecutive home games for the Rebels. Including Tuesday's game, Ole Miss is scheduled to play nine of its next 10 at home.
The Rebels are 9-3 on the year after winning 2-of-3 at Louisiana Tech this past weekend. Freshman right-hander Adam Yates is scheduled to be the Rebels' starter. Yates is 2-0 with a 2.79 ERA in five appearances, including two starts, this season. He brings a streak of 16 2/3 scoreless innings into Tuesday's contest.
Sophomore Chad Sterbens leads Ole Miss in hitting with a .417 (10x24) average and four RBI. Freshman Matt Tolbert is batting .407 (11x27) with two home runs and 10 RBI.
The Skyhawks are 0-5 on the year after dropping three games to Northern Illinois this past weekend in Martin. Junior right-hander Jason Venczel has been named UT-Martin's tentative starter. He is 0-2 with an 8.75 ERA in four innings of work this season.
Senior Joe Ayers is the team's leading hitter with a .357 average, with one home run and one RBI. As a team, UT-Martin is batting .236 with three home runs.
The two teams split a pair of games last season. The Skyhawks recorded their first-ever win over Ole Miss with an 8-5 victory on March 28 in Oxford. The Rebels won the rematch 14-5 on April in 18 in Jackson, Tenn.
Ole Miss also announced Monday that Saturday's start time against Arizona has been changed from 1 p.m., to 11:30 a.m., to avoid conflicts with the Rebel men's basketball game against Alabama, scheduled for 3 p.m., at the Tad Smith Coliseum.
The Arizona contest is part of the three-day Ole Miss Invitational that is scheduled to begin Friday. In addition to Arizona and Ole Miss, St. Francis (NY) and Southern Miss are scheduled to compete. Ole Miss will open the tournament against St. Francis at 6:30 p.m., Friday night.
