ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Ole Miss softball team gave up a six-run third inning in falling to 14th-ranked Cal State-Fullerton, 9-0, Sunday in the final day of the Lobo Diamond Invitational.
The key Titan shot was a Monica Lucatero bases-loaded triple that put Fullerton (4-1) ahead 4-0 and helped chase away Rebel reliever Leslie Day (0-1). Lucatero finished with two doubles and a triple.
CSF hurler Jodie Cox (2-1) limited Ole Miss to three hits with 12 strikeouts in tossing the shutout. First-year Rebels Kristi DiMarco, Jennifer Poore and Amber Slaton notched UM's singles.
Ole Miss finished the season-opening Invitational with a 1-5 mark. The Rebels knocked off Colorado State, 9-3, Friday and tied the single-game school record for total hits with 16. Slaton went 3-for-4 in leading six Rebels with multiple hits against the Rams.
Ole Miss returns to action with the home-opening Ole Miss Softball Classic next weekend. The Rebels begin play Saturday against Tennessee-Martin at 2 p.m. (CT), followed by Nicholls State at 4, at Ole Miss Softball Complex.
