Ole Miss Takes River Hills Mississippi Cup

JACKSON, Miss.-In front of an estimated crowd of 500, the No. 10 ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team took a 4-1 victory over in-state rival No. 15 Mississippi State to take the fourth annual River Hills Mississippi Cup, held at the River Hills Club Thursday night.
The Rebels' victory tied the series at 2-2 in this non-conference contest.
Mississippi State won the doubles point in a hotly contested third match when State's Romain Ambert and Rene' Charles Combette defeated the Ole Miss' Paul Ciorascu and Conor Casey, 9-8 in a tie-breaker. In the other doubles matches, the Rebels' James Shortall and Kristofer Stahlberg defeated Mississippi State's Chris McDonald and Matheau Soto, 8-3. The Bulldogs took the second doubles match when Marco Baron and David Ruiz defeated Ole Miss' Alex Hartman and Patrick Chucri, 8-3.
Ole Miss tied the match at 1-1 when James Shortall defeated the Bulldog's Charles Combette 6-4, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. The Rebels took the lead in the match at 2-1 when Kristofer Stahlberg downed Romain Ambert 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
The Rebels took a 3-1 lead when Alex Hartman defeated Marco Baron 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Ole Miss clinched the cup when Paul Ciorascu downed Jerome LeBelicard in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
The Rebels will be back in action Sunday Feb. 11, when they host Middle Tennessee State at 1 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center.
