Ole Miss Softball Drops Doubleheader to Tennessee

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team dropped both games of its SEC-opening doubleheader with Tennessee, 3-1 and 4-2, Saturday at Ole Miss softball complex. The finale of the three-game series will by Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT).
Game one saw the Rebels (10-11, 0-2 SEC) take an early lead when Amanda Lehotak tripled home Jennifer Poore in the second inning. Lehotak, a sophomore from Omaha, Neb., batted 3-for-5 with two triples in the twin bill.
However, Tennessee (12-13, 2-0 SEC) would answer with one in the fourth and two more in the fifth in the win. Maura Mollet singled and scored the first run, and later padded the lead with her two-run double. Mollet was 3-for-3 in the game.
Ole Miss sophomore Lindsay Price (3-4) suffered the loss, allowing one earned run on seven hits over seven innings. Stephanie Humphrey (6-4) limited the Rebels to three hits in the victory.
In game two, the Lady Volunteers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for the 4-2 win. Annie Fletcher and Janette Koshell each collected a pair of hits to lead the UT attack.
Ole Miss struck in the bottom of the third with Kristi DiMarco driving in Amber Slaton to put the Rebels on the scoreboard. Rachel Davenport then reached home on a one-out error by the pitcher to cut the Tennessee lead to one, 3-2. However Ole Miss would get no closer, and the Lady Vols added an insurance run in the fifth.
Holly Burris (1-3) went the distance in the loss, surrendering eight hits and two earned runs. Leigh Ann Ellis (2-4) held Ole Miss to four hits and no earned runs for the win.
