FAYETEVILLE, Ark. - Ole Miss sophomore James Shelton earned his first All-America honor on Saturday, by placing second in the 60 meters (6.61) at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas. Shelton ran a personal best and also tied the Ole Miss school record with his silver medal time. He finished second to national champion Kim Collins of TCU, who won with a time of 6.58.

"James had a fantastic start," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "It was a real cliffhanger of a race. I was really pleased to see James do so well in his first NCAA meet."

Shelton's performance combined with senior Savante' Stringfellow's national championship performance on Friday (long jump), was good enough to earn the Rebels a 10th-place team finish.

"Finishing as one of top 10 teams in the country is super," said Walker. "By doing this well at nationals just shows that we are doing the right things in our program. We are very excited."

Teneeshia Jones collected her third All-America honor of the 2001 Indoor season by finishing seventh in the 60 meters (7.42). Jones earned two All-America accolades on Friday as she finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles and eighth in the 200 meters. It was the seventh overall All-American honor for Jones, making her the most decorated woman in Ole Miss track history.

The Ole Miss track and field squads will begin the 2001 Outdoor season March 17, at the SEC Quad in Baton Rouge, La.
