OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss travels to Auburn this weekend for a three-game Southeastern Conference series with the Tigers beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m., at Hitchcock Field-Plainsman Park.
Game two of the series is set for 3 p.m., on Saturday and 1:30 p.m., on Sunday. All three games will be televised by College Sports Southeast.
Ole Miss is 15-5-1 overall, and 1-2 in the SEC. The Rebels opened conference play last weekend by losing 2-of-3 to Kentucky in Oxford. Ole Miss played a pair of midweek games against Murray State this week, winning 10-0 on Tuesday and playing to a 5-5 tie on Wednesday when the game was called after six innings due to inclement weather.
Junior right-hander Pete Montrenes will start Friday's game for the Rebels. Montrenes is 4-1 on the year with a 1.80 ERA. He suffered his first loss of the season last Friday to Kentucky as a pair of Rebel errors led to five unearned Wildcat runs in the sixth inning, and a 6-0 Kentucky win.
Auburn is 16-4 this season, including 13-1 at home. The Tigers are ranked No. 12 in this week's Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Top 25, No. 13 by Baseball America, and No. 15 in Collegiate Baseball. Auburn opened its SEC schedule last weekend at Mississippi State and was swept by the Bulldogs.
Freshman right-hander Eric Brandon is scheduled to start game one of the series for Auburn. Brandon is 2-0 this season with a 2.12 ERA.
Due to the Ole Miss men's basketball NCAA Tournament game, Friday's game will not be carried on the Ole Miss Baseball Radio Network. Saturday's game will be carried by the network and Sunday's contest will depend on Friday's outcome of the Ole Miss-Iona basketball game. If the Rebel basketball team wins Friday night, they are scheduled to play their second round game against either Notre Dame or Xavier (OH) Sunday afternoon, and the game will not be carried by the network.
All three games, however, can be heard throughout northwest Mississippi on WTNM Supertalk 105.5 FM, and over the internet at www.OleMissSports.com.
