WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The 30th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team pulled off an upset Friday, defeating No. 18 William & Mary 4-3 at the Adair Courts. With the win, the Lady Rebels improved to 7-6 on the year

William & Mary (5-6) took the early lead by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions. Ole Miss won at No. 2 doubles. The Lady Rebels came into the match not faring so well when losing the doubles point, but this time would different.

Ole Miss quickly jumped out to a 3-1 lead with straight-set wins at the top two positions and at No. 6. Julie DeRoo downed Delphine Troch 6-2, 6-2 at the top spot and then freshman Hanna-Katri Aalto cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jessyca Arthur at No. 2 singles. Freshman Audra Adams was up a set 6-0 against Kelli Partlow, and then the Partlow retired.

With William & Mary one point from elimination, Lindsay Sullivan rallied from a set down to defeat Lady Rebel junior Alseya Ignatieva 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. That made it 3-2 Ole Miss.

All eyes then turned to court four, where Lady Rebel Karem Harboe was up a set 7-5 in her match to Nina Kamp and tied 5-5 in the second. Harboe fended off numerous break points at 5-5, to hold serve. On the ensuing game, Harboe broke Kamp to seal the win for Ole Miss.

Freshman Sabrina Peppl lost in a tough three-set match at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to William & Mary's Kari Olsen for the final 4-3 score.

The Lady Rebels earned their first win over a Top 25 opponent this year. They will meet No. 8 Vanderbilt, Sunday in Nashville at 1:00 p.m.
