MEMPHIS GAME MOVED TO WEDNESDAY: Ole Miss' scheduled game on Tuesday against Memphis at AutoZone Park has been postponed to Wednesday due to the Tigers' hosting a second round NIT men's basketball game that night at The Pyramid. The contest will still have a 7 p.m., start time at AutoZone Park, the home of Pacific Coast League's Memphis Redbirds.
REBELS ADD GAME FOR TUESDAY: With the Memphis game being switched to Wednesday, Ole Miss will host Mississippi Valley State Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m., in a make-up game for the Feb. 27 game versus UT-Martin that was cancelled due to rain.
MAYOR'S TROPHY TICKETS: Tickets for the March 28 Mayor's Trophy game versus Mississippi State can be purchased by calling 1-601-981-1414 or sending a check to: OVERTIME SPORTS, 1200 LAKELAND DRIVE, JACKSON, MS 39216. Ticket prices are $10 for grandstand chairback and $6 for all other seats.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS: Auburn is ranked No. 12 in this week's Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches poll, No. 13 by Baseball America and No. 15 by Collegiate Baseball ... The Tigers are 16-5, including 13-2 at Plainsman Park ... Auburn is hitting .288 (200x694) as a team led by freshman OF Javon Moran's .319 (29x91) average ... Junior IF/OF Gabe Gross has hit four of the Tigers' six HRs and leads the team in RBI with 20 ... Tiger pitchers have a team ERA of 2.59 (184.1 IP, 53 ER), and opponents are hitting .228 (155x680) against them with four HRs.
SERIES INFO: Today's meeting is the 121st all-time between Ole Miss and Auburn ... The Tigers lead the series 61-58-1 ... Ole Miss holds a 6-5 edge in the last 11 meetings dating back to 1997, including going 4-3 at Auburn ... Ole Miss won last year's series, 2-1, in Oxford ... Auburn won the series 2-1 in 1999 the last time the two played at Plainsman Park ... the last sweep in the series came in 1988 when Auburn swept the Rebels in Auburn on Mar. 12-13 ... IN THE POLLS: After a 2-2 week that included a SEC series loss to Kentucky, Ole Miss still received votes in this week's Baseball Weekly/ESPN Top 25 Coaches poll. The Rebels garnered two votes to mark the fourth consecutive week the Rebels have received votes. Ole Miss was No. 29 in last week's Collegiate Baseball Top 30.
YATES EXTENDS STREAK: Freshman RHP Adam Yates pitched six scoreless innings of relief in three appearances last week to run his streak of scoreless innings to 27.1 dating back to a Feb. 14 start against SE Louisiana. Yates has made eight appearances during the streak, including two starts. His two starts count for 13.2 of the 27.1 innings. Even more impressive, Yates stranded all three of his inherited baserunners last week, and has stranded 4-of-7 inherited runners this season.
MONTRENES LEADS SEC IN STRIKEOUTS, TIED IN WINS: Junior RHP Pete Montrenes struck out seven last night to run his SEC-leading total to 45 in earning his fifth win of the season. The five wins is tied with South Carolina's Gary Bell and Kip Bouknight for the conference lead. Montrenes also enters Saturday leading the SEC in innings pitched with 43.1.
THREE-BAGGERS: Junior Burney Hutchinson and freshman Matt Tolbert enter this weekend tied for the SEC lead in triples with three, along with Tennessee's Chris Burke and Jeff Christensen, and Auburn's Javon Moran. Senior Carl Lafferty has two triples on the year, tied for sixth in the SEC, and Ole Miss second as a team in the SEC in triples with 10. Tennessee is leading the conference in triples with 12.
AFTER 22 GAMES LAST YEAR: Ole Miss was 13-9 after 22 games last season ... The Rebels had a .305 batting average (239x783) with 19 HRs, 134 RBI, 42 doubles and four triples ... Ole Miss had outscored its opponents 146-128 ... The Rebels stole 29-of-37 bases and had hit into 14 double plays ... Ole Miss pitchers had a 5.17 ERA (191.2 IP, 110 ER), allowing 197 hits, including 16 HRs, walked 89 and struck out 145 ... The Rebels had committed 29 errors and turned 14 double plays.
LAST TIME OUT: Burney Hutchinson's two-run HR in the eighth inning gave Ole Miss a 6-5 lead and sparked a four-run inning as the Rebels won last night's series-opener 10-8. Pete Montrenes overcame a shaky first inning, in which he gave up five runs on six hits, to work 8 1/3 innings to earn the win. He allowed eight runs, seven earned, on 12 hits and struck out seven. Nine different Ole Miss players recorded a hit as the Rebels out-hit the Tiges 15-13.
REBEL DIAMOND NOTES:
* Dating back to 1999, the Rebels have won their last eight SEC series when winning the Friday night game.
* A win today or Sunday would snap a streak of six straight SEC series losses for Ole Miss. The Rebels last SEC series win was last April 7-9 when they won 2-of-3 from the Tigers in Oxford.
* Ole Miss pitchers enter today's game having not issued a walk in the last 16 innings dating back to eighth inning of Tuesday's game with Murray State.
* The Rebels are 8-7 in their last 15 road games, including 4- 6 in SEC games.
