SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Ole Miss softball team was eliminated from the Capital Classic Sunday, falling to San Jose State, 2-1, in the second round of the consolation bracket. The Rebels (13-16) finish the tournament with a 2-5 mark.

The Spartans (17-19) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on RBI-singles from Amy Walter and Katie Games. However, Rebel hurler Jennifer Hughes (7-5) would hold San Jose hitless the rest of the game. The senior from Missouri City, Texas took the loss, despite allowing three hits and no earned runs.

Ole Miss opened the fourth inning with three straight hits from Jamie Cummings, Rachel Davenport and Desiree Layman. An Amanda Lehotak groundout would chase home Cummings, but the Rebels could do no more damage.

Cummings hit 2-for-3 on the day, as Ole Miss outhit San Jose State 6-3 in the loss.

Freshman catcher Jennifer Poore was named to the Capital Classic All-Tournament Team. A San Diego native, Poore returned to her home state to hit .381 (8-for-21) with two RBI and a team-high four stolen bases in the Rebels' seven games.

Ole Miss returns home Wednesday to host Southeast Missouri in a doubleheader, set to start at 5 p.m. (CT). The Rebels swept the Otahkians, 8-0 and 8-0, in a Mar. 6 doubleheader in Cape Girardeau.
