MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Daniel Uggla's lead-off home run in the bottom of the fourth broke a 1-1 tie, and Memphis (12-6) used three different pitchers to hold Ole Miss (18-6-1) to one run as the Tigers defeated the 19th-ranked Rebels, 3-1, Wednesday evening in front of 2,957 at AutoZone Park.
Ryan O'Malley (2-1) earned the win, holding Ole Miss to one run on five hits and walked none, while striking out three in 5 2/3 innings.
Rebel starter Dan McShea (1-2) worked four-plus innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, and struck out five in taking the loss.
Bill Edwards pitched the final three innings to earn his first save of the year.
Joshua Payne, Kyle Scott and Barrett Smith recorded two hits each as Memphis out-hit Ole Miss 8-7.
Carl Lafferty went 3-for-4 with a RBI to lead the Rebels at the plate.
Ole Miss took a 1-0 lead in the third when Josh Christian hit a one-out triple off the right field wall and Lafferty followed with a single through the left side of the infield.
Memphis tied the game in the bottom of the third as Payne opened the frame with a single, and after moving to second on a balk, Scott followed with a RBI single.
Ole Miss will return to Southeastern Conference action Friday night at 6:30 p.m., when the Rebels host Alabama in a three-game weekend series. Junior right-hander Pete Montrenes (5-1, 2.91) is scheduled to start for the Rebels against junior left-hander Mark Carter (4-1, 3.35).
