Ole Miss Loses To South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The 30th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis lost a hard-fought match to 26th-ranked South Carolina 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center on the USC campus. The loss drops Ole Miss to 7-8 overall and 1-4 in the SEC, while USC improves to 10-5 overall and 2-4 in league play.
The Gamecocks took an early 1-0 lead in the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. USC improved to 39-6 in doubles matches this spring as they have claimed the doubles point in 13 of the season's 15 matches. The duo of Jennifer Radman and Kathy Boyanovich toppled No. 30 Julie DeRoo and Mira Radu 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and Leigh Eichelberger and Lynn-Yin Tan defeated Alesya Ignatieva and Karem Harboe 9-7 at No. 2 singles. The sweep was completed as Katarina Markovski and Catherine Brown outlasted Hanna-Katri Aalto and Audra Adams 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Ole Miss' DeRoo came back to defeat Radman 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Aalto rallied to knock off USC's Markovski 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Radu downed Tan 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 4 position.
Lady Rebel Ignatieva lost a tough three-set match to Boyanovich at No. 3 singles. After winning the first set 7-5, Ignatieva would lose the next two 7-5, 6-2. Tamara Sutton topped Karem Harboe 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles to even the match at 3-3.
Eichelberger, a senior for the Gamecocks, clinched the match at No. 6 singles, beating Lady Rebel freshman Sabrina Peppl in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
The Lady Rebels return home to host Alabama Tuesday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
