LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Ole Miss softball team dropped the finale of its three-game set with Kentucky, 9-1, Sunday at the UK Softball Complex. The Wildcats take the series win, 2-1.
Kentucky (17-18, 4-6 SEC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, with two runs coming home on a Tiffany Kruse single to right. Kruse drove in another run in the third to key another three- run rally and chase away Rebel starter Holly Burris.
Burris (2-5) allowed four hits and six runs, though only one was earned, over two innings in the loss. Lindsay Price tossed the final 3.1 innings in relief, with the game ending in the sixth after a Lyndsey Angus RBI-single gave the Cats the mercy rule victory.
For UK, Morgan Marr (11-7) pitched her second win of the weekend, holding the Rebels to three hits.
Ole Miss (15-19, 2-4 SEC) picked up its run in the fourth inning, when Kristi DiMarco singled and scored on a fielder's choice groundout by Jamie Cummings.
The Rebels return to action Tuesday, as they open a three-game homestand with Mississippi State at Ole Miss Softball Complex. Tuesday's doubleheader begins at 5 p.m. (CT), and the finale will be Wednesday at 5.
