Grove Bowl Activities Set For Saturday

OXFORD, Miss. - A full day of activities await Ole Miss fans planning to attend Saturday's "Grove Bowl" when Coach David Cutcliffe's Rebels conclude spring football drills for 2001.

Sponsored by the University of Mississippi M-Club with proceeds going to the J. W. "Wobble" Davidson Scholarship Fund, kickoff for the annual Red-Blue Game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is set for 1:00 p.m. Admission is $10 with all seats general admission. Ole Miss students, faculty, and staff will be admitted free upon presentation of their University ID card. Kids, ages 12 and under, will also be admitted free of charge.

Football tickets will be sold Saturday morning in The Grove, while the Rebel Shop Ticket Office, located next to the stadium on All-America Drive, opens at 11:00.

"Due to stadium construction, seating for Saturday's football game will only be on East side," said Ole Miss Athletic Director John Shafer. "Also, the Rebel Club on the East side will not be open."

Entry at the stadium will be through gates 17, 18, and 19. Those gates will open Saturday morning at 11:30. No reserved parking will be available for the Red-Blue Game.

Activities begin in The Grove at 10:00 a.m. with a free concert by the Memphis Soul Review, which takes place on The Grove Stage. Also, the Food Court will open at 10:00.

The 2001 Rebel football team will conduct its traditional "Walk of Champions" at 10:30, walking from the Union to the Starnes Athletic Training Center.

At 10:30, new head strength and conditioning coach Ruben Mendoza will host an open house in the weight room of the Starnes Athletic Training Center.

Following the football game, action shifts to Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field as Coach Mike Bianco's Rebels take on the Georgia Bulldogs at 4:00. Admission to the Southeastern Conference baseball clash is $5 for adults and $2 high school students and under. Ole Miss students are admitted free upon presentation of their University ID card. The Rebels and Bulldogs will conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:00.

Also on tap at 5:00 p.m. is an SEC softball doubleheader at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. Coach Candi Letts' Rebels will face Auburn in the first two games of a three-game series. Admission is free. The series finale is set for Sunday afternoon at 1:00.

In addition, the Rebel soccer squad will be in action against club teams Saturday at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. The back-to-back SEC Western Division Champions face the Brentwood Lady Express at 4:30 and the Germantown Fury at 7:00.
