OLE MISS TRAVELS TO TENNESSEE...
Ole Miss (7-9, 1-6) travels to Knoxville this weekend to face the No. 4 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols. The match is slated for 1:00 p.m. The Lady Rebels will be looking to snap a three-match losing streak overall and a four-match conference losing streak.
SCOUTING TENNESSEE ...
Tennessee comes into the match with their highest ranking under co-head coaches Mike Patrick and Sonia Hahn-Patrick. The Lady Vols are 16-2 overall and 5-1 in the SEC. Tennessee is led by 83rd-ranked Alison Ojeda. The Lady Vols No. 1 doubles team of Ojeda and Vilmarie Castellvi are ranked No. 13 in the nation.
SERIES HISTORY ...
Ole Miss and Tennessee have played 26 times with Tennessee holding a narrow 14-12 lead. The Lady Rebels defeated Tennessee 5-4 in the regular-season meeting last year, but the Lady Vols avenged the loss with a 5-4 win in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. The last time the two teams met in Knoxville (1999), Ole Miss won 5-1.
LADY REBELS LOSE HEARTBREAKER TO ALABAMA ...
Alabama won the opening doubles point and that would prove to be the difference, as they defeated 29th-ranked Ole Miss 4-3 in women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Playing without their No. 2 player, the Lady Rebels made a valiant effort but came up short. Alabama's win ended a 20-match winning streak by the Lady Rebels and was their first victory in the series since 1980.
NATIONAL RANKINGS ...
Ole Miss is ranked No. 31 in the latest WingspanBank.com ITA National Rankings, released Wednesday. The Lady Rebels are one of eight SEC teams ranked among the top 30. Four teams from the SEC are ranked among the nation's top 10. Individually, sophomore Julie DeRoo is ranked No. 35 and Mira Radu is ranked No. 96 in singles. In doubles, DeRoo and Radu are ranked No. 30.
ON THE COURT ...
Five of Ole Miss' nine losses have come against Top 25 teams...The Lady Rebels are 6-2 when they win the doubles point and 1-8 when they lose the point...Freshman Hanna-Katri Aalto is 7-3 at No. 2 singles...Sophomore Julie DeRoo came back to beat 48th-ranked Emmanuelle Berard 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-0 in the Lady Rebels' match against Alabama.
