Ole Miss Men's Golf Finishes Fifth At Matlock Collegiate

LAKELAND, Fla. -

The Ole Miss men's golf team finished in fifth place Tuesday at the 2001 Matlock Collegiate at the Grasslands Golf and Country Club. The Rebels fired a 54-hole total of 311-308-311--930 to tie with Georgia Southern.

The Rebels started the day in sixth place after the first round. Second round play was suspended Monday due to darkness and resumed Tuesday Morning.

Florida Southern, the host team, took the team championship with a 300-300-303--903. Alabama finished second with a 300-302-314--916.

Ole Miss' J.J. Thompson carded his first career top ten finish with a 80-74-77--231 for a tie for 10th place. Troy Muller (83-75-75--233) and Andrew Medley (74-79-80--233) tied for 18thplace overall. Phil Caravia tied for 34th place with a 77-80-81--238 and Robert Dreyfus finished tied for 51st place with a 80-83-79--242.

Florida Southern's Steve Sokol took individual honors with a 74-73-72--219.

The Rebels will be back in action on March 12-13, when they travel to Lafayette, La., to play in the Louisiana Classics Intercollegiate, hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette.
