Jones Earns SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss senior third baseman Lance Jones has been named one of two recipients of the 2000- 2001 Southeastern Conference Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship, Commissioner Roy Kramer announced Thursday. University of Florida gymnast Gabby Fuchs was the other award winner.
Ole Miss' starting third baseman, Jones has helped lead the Rebels to their first top 10 ranking since 1972 as they are currently No. 10 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Top 30. Ole Miss is also in a tie for first place for the overall Southeastern Conference lead with a 14-7 conference mark.
Jones has started all 46 games for the Rebels. He is batting .311 with six home runs and 35 runs batted in.
He is a member of the Golden Key National Society and has earned SEC Academic Honor Roll, UMAA Honor Roll and the Dean's Honor Roll listings. He has also earned the Phi Kappa Theta Scholarship and is a member of the Rebel 3.0 Club.
In his community, Jones is a co-founder of TEACH - Tobacco Education Affects Childrens' Health and has collaborated with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids in Washington, D.C. He has helped plan and program events for Special Olympics and has been a volunteer with the North Mississippi Regional Center. He also received the Extra Effort Award by the CHAMPS Life Skills Program at Ole Miss.
A native of Laurel, Miss., Jones has maintained a 3.44 grade point average, majoring in Leisure Management at Ole Miss. The son of David and Virginia, Jones is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Leisure Management Majors Association and the Student-Athlete Council. He has been featured as the Ole Miss Student-Athlete of the Week and is a nominee for Ole Miss' Who's Who.
The SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship was first presented in 1996.
