OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 11 ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team needed little more than two and a half hours to down 29th-ranked Florida Sunday afternoon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

The Rebels got on the board first by claiming the doubles point. The 15th-ranked duo of James Shortall and Kristofer Stahlberg trailed Florida's Nathan Overholser and Jeremy Wurtzman 5-3 at No. 1 doubles. Following a point by Shortall, Overholser threw the ball at a spectator and the head referee defaulted the Gator duo. Seconds later, Martin Selin and Paul Ciorascu finished off Troy Hahn and Trey Johnson 8-3 at No. 3 doubles for the point.

Stahlberg, playing only his second match at No. 1 singles, was impressive. After a tough start getting down 3-2 in the first set to Overholser, Stahlberg won four consecutive games to take the first set 6-3 and was leading in the second before Overholser retired. That made it 2-0 Rebels.

On court two, Alex Hartman jumped on his opponent Wurtzman, 6-1 in the first set, but the Gator came back in the second set forcing a tiebreaker. Hartman would win the tiebreaker 7-4 to give Ole Miss a 3-0 lead.

Florida's Matt Behrmann downed Ciorascu 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles for the Gators to make it 3-1, but Shortall sealed the win with his 6-2, 6-3 win over Gator Olivier Levant at No. 3 singles.

"This was a big challenge for the team coming off a tough loss to Tennessee on Friday," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "We got off to a fast start, taking the doubles point and winning five of six of the first sets in singles. I was very impressed with our performance at every position."

Selin won his match 7-5, 2-1, ret., against Hahn on court five, and Patrick Chucri topped Johnson 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to finish off the scoring.

With the win, the Rebels snapped a three-match losing streak to the Gators and claimed their fourth consecutive victory against Florida in Oxford. The Rebels will travel to Baton Rouge Wednesday for a match with 21st-ranked LSU, before closing out the regular season at home against arch-rival Mississippi State next Saturday.
