No. 9 Ole Miss Blanks Mississippi Valley State 12-0

OXFORD, Miss. - Three Ole Miss pitchers combined on a two-hitter as No. 9 Ole Miss downed Mississippi Valley State, 12-0, in a game called after seven innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Senior OF Craig Nugen went 3-for-4 with a home run, and was a double away from hitting for the cycle. He hit his third home run of the year with a solo shot in the fourth to put the Rebels up 10-0.
Freshman right-hander Adam Yates (7-0) worked four innings to earn the win, allowing the two hits and one walk. Senior right-hander Jon Dickens pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth, and Glen Morris pitched the seventh. Dickens and Morris both recorded two strikeouts each.
Torrione Carter (2-7) was charged with the loss, allowing nine runs on 10 hits and two walks.
Mississippi Valley State (12-36) recorded both of its hits in the first inning. Sean Hill started the game with a single. After Shenard Garrett flied out to left and Hill was picked off, Kelbert Fagan recorded the Delta Devils' final hit of the night with a double to right center.
Ole Miss (35-14-1) scored all the runs it would need with three in the second, capped by Burney Hutchinson's two-run triple.
The Rebels then broke the game open with six runs in the fourth, hitting three home runs in the inning, including back-to-back blasts from Matt Tolbert and Hutchinson. Josh Christian hit his 10th homer of the season with a two-run shot to make it 5-0. Tolbert's was also a two-run home run to extend Ole Miss' lead to 8-0, and Hutchinson followed with his 11th of the year to make it 9-0.
The Rebels will return to Southeastern Conference action with a three-game series at Tennessee, starting Friday at 6 p.m.
