OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss announced the signing of sophomore OF Drew Rogers, of San Jacinto College North in Houston, Texas, to a national letter of intent to play baseball for the Rebels, head coach Mike Bianco announced Wednesday. Rogers will be eligible for the 2001-2002 academic year.

Rogers, 6-feet-0, 200 pounds, is hitting .384, fifth-best in Texas, with 18 doubles and six home runs this spring. He has helped his team to a 38-8 record, ranking first among Texas junior colleges.

"Drew is one of the top hitters in the Texas junior college ranks, and he comes from a strong program at San Jacinto that competes for championships year in and year out," Bianco said. "Not only his ability, but his experience of competing on a championship level, will add a lot of our ball club."

Ole Miss is ranked No. 9 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Top 30 poll. The Rebels enter this weekend's series at No. 19 Tennessee 35-14-1 overall, including 16-8 in the Southeastern Conference. Ole Miss is in second place overall in the conference standings, one game behind LSU.
