VICTORIA, B.C. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team concluded its Canada trip 6-0 with wins over the Victorian All-Stars and the University of Victoria Saturday and Sunday. The Lady Rebels also defeated the British Columbia Under-19 Select Team (twice) and Simon Fraser University (twice) on the tour.
Ole Miss defeated the Victorian All-Stars 86-75 on Saturday, led by Von Kirk's 20 points. She also dished out five assists. Sherika Wright contributed 17 points and 4 assists in the win, and Saundra Jackson had a solid game with 12 points and 6 rebounds.
The All-Stars were led by four-time Canadian National Team member Tara McMillan and recent University of Victoria graduate Kim Johnson. Both players finished with 20 points.
The Lady Rebels shot 42 percent on 24-of-57 from the field and 8-of-23 from behind the arc. Foul shooting continued to be a major factor, as Ole Miss shot 33-of-40 compared to just 13-of-27 by their opponent.
On Sunday, the Lady Rebels downed the University of Victoria Lady Vikes 78-53 to finish the tour 6-0. Tywanna Inmon led the team in scoring with 18 points and also added 6 rebounds. TaShondrea Moton led all rebounders with 9, including 5 offensive boards, and also tallied 11 points. Kayla Madewell chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds and Saundra Jackson totaled 10 points and 6 rebounds.
"We are pleased to go 6-0 on the tour, but more importantly, we saw some good things on and off the basketball court," head coach Ron Aldy said. "The trip was a great experience, and we feel like we are a much improved team because of it."
The Lady Rebels visited Butchart Gardens on Saturday and enjoyed boating on the Pacific Ocean on Sunday. They will return to Oxford late Monday afternoon.
