Oxford, Miss. - The Minnesota Vikings announced Wednesday the signing of Ole Miss quarterback Romaro Miller to a free agent contract. Miller will go to training camp with the Vikings as one of four quarterbacks on the roster, joining Daunte Culpepper, Todd Bourman and Billy Cockerham.
Miller is the fifth Ole Miss senior to sign a free agent contract with a National Football League team this spring. Earlier signees included offensive lineman Keydrick Vincent with the Pittsburgh Steelers, offensive lineman Shane Grice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, wide receiver Grant Heard with the San Francisco 49ers, and defensive end Shane Elam, also with the 49ers.
Three other Rebels were chosen during the recent NFL draft -- running back Deuce McAllister in the first round by the New Orleans Saints, defensive back Ken Lucas in the second round by the Seattle Seahawks, and defensive end Derrick Burgess in the third round by the Philadelphia Eagles.
During his standout career at Ole Miss, Miller set school records for passing yards (6,311), TD passes (43), and 200-yard games with 18. He was a three-year starter for the Rebels, starting 32 of the 35 career games he played from 1997-2000 with a 22-13 record as the starter.
Miller led the Rebels to three straight bowl games, playing in the Sanford Independence Bowl in 1998 and 1999 and ending his college career in the 2000 Music City Bowl.
