OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss men's tennis sophomore Alex Hartman was among 43 Division I players to earn All-America honors for the 2001 season as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. He becomes the 16th All-American in the history of the program.

Players who are seeded top 16 in the NCAA Singles Championships or reach the round of 16 in the NCAA Championships, or finish in the top 20 of the final WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings qualify for All-America honors.

Hartman, a native of Klippan, Sweden, earned the honor for the first time in his career and qualified under all three criteria. He is one of 11 underclassmen to earn All-America honors in singles.

"Alex had an outstanding year, and we are proud of him for being recognized as among the best in the nation," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "This honor is a tribute to his hard work and dedication. He was a huge factor in our team finishing the year ranked in the top 10."

A two-time All-SEC first team selection, Hartman finished the year ranked No. 14 in the nation and reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championships. He posted a 28-15 overall record this year and led the Rebels to their seventh top 10 final ranking in the last eight years.
