OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss went through a competitive full-pad practice Tuesday morning with the defense drawing praise from head coach David Cutcliffe, during the second day of full pad workouts for the Rebels.
The morning session lasted for just over two hours before the Rebels returned later for another two-hour practice in the evening.
After feeling his team didn't have a strong effort on Monday, Cutcliffe was pleased to see the Rebels respond with a better showing on Tuesday.
"I thought we were much crisper and the competitiveness of the whole practice was better," Cutcliffe said. "I thought the intensity and the competitiveness lasted the whole practice."
In addition to covering special teams and going through individual drills, Ole Miss also worked on goal line situations, with the defense's performance highlighting the morning.
"I was really pleased with the defense," Cutcliffe said. "I thought our defensive front was the most physical it has been in a long, long time, so that was encouraging."
Saturday will be the annual "Meet The Rebels Day" presented by Cellular One at 1 p.m., in The Grove. The Rebels' 2001 season-opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m., against Murray State at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field.
