Oxford, Miss. - Despite continually rising temperatures, Ole Miss continued its preparations for its season opener against Murray State, taking the field in pads and shorts to run drills.

Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe said he was impressed with the way his team continues to respond and improve in spite of the heat.

"We had a really good workout today and saw a lot of positives,"Cutcliffe said. "We got more of our game plan in today, and we looked good in all phases of the game - offense, defense and the kicking game."

For the second day in a row, the Rebels held practice to under two hours in an effort to keep the team motivated and in good condition as the season approaches. Ole Miss will hold a rehearsal scrimmage on Friday to continue preparations for Murray State.

"Tomorrow we are going to go with no pads and no contact," Cutcliffe said. "Otherwise it will be like a game day situation with every aspect of the game implemented. We're going this route to minimize the risk of injuries this close to the season opener and rest up some weary legs."

The Rebels will open the season at 6.p.m. on September 1, against Murray State at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field.
