OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss worked out for two hours Friday evening in a non-contact scrimmage. Practicing in shorts and no pads, the Rebels concentrated on game situations and execution.

With the season-opener eight days away, head coach David Cutcliffe said the team was able to address its practice needs and keep its intensity despite the lack of contact.

"I was really pleased with the team's effort," Cutcliffe said. "We covered every situation of a game. The focus of the players was good, and they did a good job of maintaining their intensity."

Working on the game plan for the opener with Murray State, Cutcliffe noted the strong play of the scout team as well as the starters ability to react to the challenge.

"The opponent team did a great job today," he said. "They really got into it and executed well. And I thought our No. 1 offense responded to that. They were very sharp in their execution."

Ole Miss begins the 2001 season Sept. 1 vs. Murray State. Game time is 6 p.m. at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
