OXFORD, Miss. - Kim Dowell, a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, has joined the Ole Miss women's basketball program, head coach Ron Aldy announced Monday. Dowell replaces Carol Sensley, a member of the staff for the past two seasons, who left to take the head coaching position with the McNeese State University women's basketball program.
Dowell comes to the Lady Rebel program after spending the last five years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, where she assisted the head coach with on-court coaching duties. Dowell also oversaw the academic development of the Mavericks, coordinated film exchange and helped with recruiting.
"We are very pleased to have Kim joining our staff," Aldy said. "She is a hard worker and has an outstanding feel for the game and what we are trying to accomplish here at Ole Miss. We are blessed to have her working with our players. She will be a great addition to our staff.
"I am extremely excited about working for Coach Aldy and great program like Ole Miss," Dowell said. "There is not a better conference in America to work in than the Southeastern Conference. I am looking forward to the opportunity that I have been given."
Before coaching at Texas-Arlington, Dowell was a four-year starter on the front line for the Mavericks. She ended her career as one of the most prolific rebounders in school history as she hauled in a total of 622 rebounds in her career, good for second place on the career rebounding chart at UTA.
"Playing at the Division I level provided Kim with some valuable experience," Aldy said. "She knows what it takes to succeed at this level. Her knowledge will be invaluable to our players."
The Avinger, Texas native graduated from UTA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Exercise, Sport and Health Studies in 1997.
