OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss head football coach David Cutcliffe greeted 25 newcomers here Friday as the 2001 class reported to campus.

"It's an exciting day at Ole Miss," Cutcliffe said following an afternoon meeting with the first year Rebels. "This is an outstanding group of young men and you could sense their enthusiasm. I know the coaching staff is excited about the opportunity to work with them."

One of the signees, Mike Espy of Madison, Miss., arrived following the team meeting after being involved in a one car accident on his way to campus.

"After a thorough medical checkup and observation, we'll determine when Mike can participate," Cutcliffe said.

Saturday's schedule calls for the newcomers to be involved in academic orientation, while physical exams are set for Sunday.

The first practice for the 2001 class is set for Monday morning with another session to take place Monday afternoon.

Returning players are set to report on Tuesday with the combined squad to begin practice Thursday. The first day in pads will be Monday, August 13.

Ole Miss will begin the season here Sept. 1 by hosting Murray State at 6:00 p.m. at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium/Hollingsworth Field.
