Soccer Suffers 1-0 Loss to Memphis

MEMPHIS - Despite outshooting the Tigers, the Ole Miss soccer team dropped its second one-goal loss of the young season Monday, falling 1-0 to Memphis at Echles Field.
The Tigers (2-2-1) netted the games' lone goal at 6:50, when Alison Baker booted a ball over Rebel goalkeeper Melinda Smith from the left side of the field, 25 yards out. Anja Nielson picked up the assist.
Memphis fought off a strong Ole Miss attack in the second half with Tiger goalie Katarina Wicksell making key saves on shots by Lindley Beckman and Kristal Menard, whose header hit the crossbar and fell short in the 81st minute. Wicksell finished the game with four saves.
Ole Miss (2-3) outshot Memphis 6-0 in the second half and finished the game with a 10-4 advantage. It is the Tigers' first win over the Rebels in five meetings.
Monday's match was originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, but was rescheduled due to the tragedy suffered by our nation last week.
The Rebels travel to Arizona this weekend for a two-game road trip. Ole Miss faces Arizona State Friday at 7 p.m. MT in Tempe, and follows up with Northern Arizona Sunday at noon MT in Flagstaff.
