Volleyball Drops SEC Opener To Alabama

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team dropped its Southeastern Conference opener to defending SEC Western Division Champion, Alabama, 3-0 Friday night at the Cave. With the loss, the Lady Rebels dropped to 2-7 overall, while Alabama improved to 6-2 on the season.

The Crimson Tide's Shelly Adamcik had 15 kills and hit .565 to lead Alabama. Jennifer Bibber finished with 13 kills for a .346 hitting percentage. Alabama hit .375 for the night with 56 kills.

Ole Miss hit just .098 in the match with 30 kills. Senior middle blocker Leigh Rittiner led the Lady Rebels with seven kills and a .357 hitting percentage. Karla Zschau came off the bench to snag five kills on 14 attempts for a .357 percentage.

In game one, Alabama jumped out to an eight-point lead (16-8), and the Lady Rebels could only get within six (18-12). Alabama led 24-14 and then won six of the final seven points to secure the victory 30-15. The Crimson Tide started off game two with a 5-0 lead and built their lead to as much as eight (23-15) before going on to win 30-22.

Ole Miss trailed 5-1 in game three, but tied it up 7-7. With Alabama ahead 10-9, they used a 7-2 run to go ahead 17-11. The Lady Rebels trailed 25-21 and then went on a 4-1 run to get within one (26-25).

The Lady Rebels will conclude the road trip Sunday against Auburn at 2 p.m.
