Softball Hosts Fall Tournament

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team hosts five teams in the fourth annual Rebel Softball Fall Classic Saturday and Sunday at Ole Miss Softball Complex. Games begin at 9 a.m. each day.
On Saturday, the Rebels play Christian Brothers at 9 a.m. CST, Delta State at 11 and Jackson State at 9 p.m. On Sunday, Ole Miss faces West Alabama at 3 p.m. followed by Mississippi University for Women at 7.
"We're really looking forward to getting back into competition," said Ole Miss head coach Candi Letts. "We've got a lot of young players that need game experience. These are quality teams coming in this weekend, and it should make for a good tournament."
The Rebels, who posted a perfect 5-0 mark to win last year's Classic, are preparing for their 2002 season, and looking to break-in a host of newcomers for the spring. Ole Miss returns only two position starters and eight letterwinners from last year's 18-40 squad, while adding five freshmen and two transfers.
Outfielder Jessica Hamilton is the lone senior and the top returning hitter on the 2002 team. After battling injuries her first two seasons, Hamilton played her first full season a year ago and finished second on the team in hitting with a .260 average while posting the highest on-base percentage at .364.
On the mound, junior righthander Lindsay Price takes over as the staff leader. Last season, Price maintained a 3.25 ERA while raising her win total to five. She also notched her first two career shutouts, including a two-hitter against conference foe Kentucky.
