Volleyball To Begin Four-Match Homestand This Weekend

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's volleyball team will host a pair of Gamecocks this weekend, beginning with Jacksonville State Friday at 7 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center. On Sunday, the Lady Rebels will take on 18th-ranked South Carolina at 2 p.m.
Ole Miss comes into a four-match homestand with a 3-7 overall record, 1-1 in the SEC. The Lady Rebels split their matches last weekend, losing to Alabama 3-0 in their SEC opener and then defeating Auburn 3-2 on Sunday.
"We were pleased to come away with a split in our opening weekend of SEC play," head coach John Blair said. "We are happy to be back at home for the next few matches and look forward to a great weekend beginning with Jacksonville State. South Carolina has a very good team and will definitely present a challenge on Sunday."
Senior Jaime Burns leads the Lady Rebels with 134 kills on 394 total attempts, for an average of 3.72 kills per game. Freshman Elena Garcia comes into the weekend second on the team with 111 kills on 350 attempts for 2.78 kills per game.
Jacksonville State comes into Friday's match with a 4-6 record. They went 2-1 in the Wingate Invitational this past weekend losing to Georgia State 3-0 in the championship match. The Gamecocks are led by sophomore outside hitter Christina Cary, who is averaging 2.65 kills per game and leads the team in hitting percentage at .297.
After earning a split in their first two SEC matches of the season, the 18th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks are 7-1 overall. South Carolina led Florida 2-0 last Friday, before seeing the Gators come back for a 3-2 win. The Gamecocks handed Georgia a 3-0 loss on Sunday. Junior outside hitter Cally Plummer leads the Gamecocks with 121 kills in 281 total attacks for an average of 4.32 kills per game. She is hitting .288 for the season.
The Lady Rebels hold a 10-1 lead in the overall series with JSU and trail South Carolina 13-6.
