AUBURN POSTGAME NOTES
,Ole Miss' fumble recovery on the Auburn 47-yard line with 9:58
remaining in the third period marked the first time this season that an
Auburn opponent had possession of the ball in Tiger territory. All
totaled, Auburn's opponents went 95:02 without allowing the opponents
beyond midfield.
,Ball State did not cross midfield in the Tigers' season opener. Today's capacity crowd of 86,063 is a new Jordan-Hare Stadium attendance record, surpassing the previous best of 85,612 set against Georgia (11/11/00) and LSU (9/16/00) last season.
,Ole Miss' touchdown with 3:02 remaining in the third quarter was the first time this season that Auburn has allowed a score. The Tigers went 101:58 to start the season without allowing a score. Auburn has now had 51 rushing attempts against Ole Miss the last two seasons, the only time the Tigers have had 50-plus carries in a game in 2000 and 2001.
,Auburn has now won nine straight conference openers dating back to 1993 and is 36-27-5 overall in league openers. Tommy Tuberville has won all three SEC openers at the Tiger helm.
,The Tigers have now won eight of the last nine meetings with Ole Miss and 17 of the last 19.
,In the two games this season, the Auburn defense allowed only 60 yards rushing against Ball State and 50 yards vs. Ole Miss.
,With two field goals today, junior Damon Duval has had at least two field goals in each of the last four regular season games.
,Casinious Moore's 11-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was his first rushing touchdown of his career. Moore scored a touchdown last year against Vanderbilt on a blocked punt.
,Justin Fetsko's three-yard catch in the second quarter was his first career reception.
,With three rushing touchdowns, Casinous Moore is the first Auburn player with three rushing scores since Rudi Johnson had four rushing TD's against Louisiana Tech last season.
,Stanford Simmon's third quarter interception was the third of his career and second against Ole Miss. The junior had an interception at Ole Miss last season in the fourth quarter.
OLE MISS POSTGAME NOTES
,Syniker Taylor has intercepted a pass in back-to-back games after picking off an Auburn pass in
the end zone on the Tigers' opening possession to thwart a possible scoring drive. Taylor, who
entered the week tied for the lead as the SEC's active career leader in interceptions, now has 9 picks in his career.
Ole Miss' scoreless first quarter snapped a streak of 11 consecutive scoring quarters. Prior to today, the last time the Rebels failed to score in a quarter was the first quarter of last year's Egg Bowl with Mississippi State, on Nov. 23 in Oxford.
Senior WR Omar Rayford extended his streak to 12 consecutive games with a reception, catching a 25-yard pass from QB Eli Manning in the third quarter.
With two TD passes today, sophomore QB Eli Manning has thrown 9 TD passes in the last three games, including last December's Music City Bowl, which is believed to be a school record for the most TD passes in a 3-game span. He tossed 3 TDs in the fourth quarter against the Mountaineers in last year's bowl game, and set a school single-game record with 5 in last week's 49-14 win over Murray State.
Senior WR Jamie Armstrong set career-highs today for receptions (9) and receiving yards (108).
The 108-yard effort was also his first career 100-yard receiving game.
Today's 27-21 loss marked Ole Miss' ninth straight SEC-opening loss. The last time the Rebels won their conference opener was in 1992, 45-21 against Auburn in Oxford. All-time, the Rebels are 28-37-3 in conference openers, including 2-14 against the Tigers.
