Ole Miss Track Teams Fare Well At Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams finished with five first-place finishes at the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday. The Rebels and Lady Rebels, competing in just their second meet of the season, had several dominating performances on both the track and in the field.

For the Rebels, freshman Antwon Hicks took first in the high jump by clearing 6-8.25. Hicks also placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.10. Hicks broke his own Ole Miss record in the 60-meter hurdles.

Freshman Franz Bernard finished first in the 400 meters. Bernard clocked in at 48.18. Sophomore Clinton Fletcher also placed in the 400 meters, coming in seventh with a time of 48.79. Three Rebels placed in the finals of the 60 meters as junior James Shelton finished third (6.80), freshman Taye Biddle placed sixth (6.86) and freshman Chris Lawson placed ninth (6.99).

Lawson placed third in the 200 meters (21.72), while junior Lawrence Wade came in fifth (21.98). The Rebel 4x400-meter relay team finished third with a time of 3:15.49.

Junior Stacy Andrews led the Rebels on the field as he finished first in the weight throw with a toss of 63-8.75. Senior Jimmy Radford placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 15-6.25 and freshman Brandon Atkinson finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 47-7.25.

Junior Willisa Heintz was the lone Lady Rebel individual to collect a first place finish. Heintz won the 200 meters with a time of 23.97. Heintz also finished second in the 60 meters with a time of 7.48. Both times were season-bests for Heintz. In addition to Heintz first place finish, the Lady Rebel 4x400-meter relay team finished first with a time of 3:53.94.

Freshman Camilia Pittman finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 58.17, while senior Chika Chuku placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.53. Sophomore Chiquita Stephens (7.75) and senior Wanikka Vance (7.86) placed seventh and ninth respectively in the 60 meter finals.

Ole Miss will return to action on Friday, Jan. 18, when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the SEC 6-Way meet.
