Rebel Netter Falls In SEC Indoor Quarterfinals

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Alex Hartman of the No. 5 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team saw his bid to reach the finals of the SEC Indoor Championships for the third year in a row, come up short in the quarterfinal round Saturday at the Boone Tennis Center.

Hartman, seeded No. 5 in the tournament, won the first set against Georgia's Lesley Joseph, 6-2, but the Bulldog rallied to take the second and third sets 6-4, 6-4 for the win. Hartman finished 3-1 in the tournament, upping his overall record to 6-2.

In the doubles quarterfinals, Hartman and Patrick Chucri dropped an 8-5 decision to Mark Dietrich and Peter Handoyo of Tennessee.

The SEC Indoor Championships featured many of the nation's top players from a league with three teams ranked in the top five and eight teams among the top 25.

The Rebels open their season Jan. 24 at home against Arkansas-Little Rock. That match will be played at the Gillom Sports Center at 2:30 p.m.
